"Shadow Sentinels" is a Kaldorei roleplaying guild on the EU-Moonglade server of World of WarCraft. Our rules are listed below, and are based on simple common sense and respect for the roleplaying environment. If you're interested in joining us, please also consult this thread: About recruitment
General Conduct
1) The channels /say, /guild, /yell and /emote are strictly IC at all times, and using "double brackets" to mask OOC talk in them is not acceptable. If for example you need to inform people that you will be AFK a while, please find an IC explanation (such as meditation or a brief nap) or use a private channel.
2) In /party and /whisper, it is up to the people involved whether they are IC or OOC, and whether they want to use double brackets to denote OOC.
3) We do not expect our members to be lore experts, but they need to know the basics and be willing to learn. It simply is not possible to roleplay a proper, believable Kaldorei without a certain knowledge of the lore. Check our public Ancient of Lore forum for resources. You should at least be aware of and make your character compliant with the information found in this thread: Assorted lore facts
4) This is a guild for roleplayers, so if you are more keen on powerlevelling, item-hunting or honorfarming, find another guild. Active interest in interacting with other members and participating in guild events are mandatory, and organizing your own events and storylines is always more than welcome. If you need help fleshing out your character or a RP idea, please don't hesitate to ask for help.
5) A guild depends on all its members. One does not have to be extraordinarily creative or outgoing to contribute -- some genuine effort and interest are enough. Help lower levels with their quests, find reasons to group together, and take some time out off your grinding to be sociable. Build IC friendships with guildmates through IC interaction, and do not rely too much on the OOC channel.
6) Poweremoting, metagaming (using knowledge you don't have IC), or bringing out of character issues into character is strongly frowned upon.
7) Avoid OOC drama in the guild. Members are encouraged to settle their differences privately before things get out of hand. If necessary an officer will assist you in this, but don't expect us to fight your battles for you. Abusiveness will not be tolerated in any way. We are mature people and are expected to act in a mature, courteous fashion.
8) Remember to visit the forums regularly. They are here for all members of the guild to use (and friendly visitors are welcome to our public forums), and not to collect dust. Stories, poems, lore questions, rants, discussions about talents and skills, plans for future events and more are all welcome.
9) If you know that you will be away for more than a month, please leave a note of absence on the forums. Characters who disappear without a word will be removed from the guild to keep the roster up-to-date (though if their prior conduct was good, nothing prevents them from rejoining if they become active again).
Characters and Background
1) This is a Kaldorei-only guild. There will be no exceptions made to this rule, but of course we welcome suitable characters of other races as friends and allies.
2) Characters with names that violate the official Naming Policy (found here: Page 1, Page 2) or are otherwise inappropriate for the race will not be accepted. If you have a name that does not fit, please have it changed before applying. Or, if the GMs are less than helpful, recreate the character with an appropriate name.
3) Potential members need to be at least level 15. There are too many tourists on Moonglade, as well as characters who get discarded shortly after they are made, so we need some assurance that you are serious about your character.
4) A character belongs to the race and class displayed on his or her character screen. This means we will absolutely not accept any self-proclaimed (half-)demons, vampires, worgens, furries, half-elves, high elves, shapeshifted dragons or other "freaks".
5) Most character concepts are allowed, as long as they adhere to the central values and beliefs of traditional Kaldorei society (see below), respect the lore and use some common sense. However, please do not go over the top trying to make your character or his/her family too important, powerful or flawless. Many Kaldorei may be very old, but even they cannot not have "seen it all, done it all, known it all".
6) This guild is not suitable for selfish or evil characters. While our members do not all have to like or agree with each other IC or OOC, they genuinely need to be willing to cooperate with guildmates, other "true" Kaldorei as well as their traditional allies. Note: blatant IC racism for its own sake (as opposed to, say, despising gnomes for their obsession with magic and technology) is not supported by the leadership of the Sentinels, so a character who is outspoken about "inherent Kaldorei superiority over the lesser races" would run into some problems.
7) No Death Knights will be allowed in the guild. Spreading disease, practicing necromancy and wielding other "unholy" or "negative" energies is as abominable as consorting with demons.
8) We do not accept mages. Respect for Tyrande's leadership and her decision to give the Highborne another chance stays our hands against them, but ten thousand years of enmity for them and the arcane will not be forgotten.
9) Kaldorei "shadow priests" have sometimes been a subject of debate. They can work, but they require thought and should not be considered the same as actual Shadow Priests. Please check this thread for a more detailed look at them if you want to play such a character: About Kaldorei "shadow" priests
The core values of Kaldorei society
1) Show reverence for Elune as the "mother" of the Kaldorei and of the world at large, and for her son Cenarius and the other Ancients as the greatest spirits of nature.
2) Respect the priesthood of Elune. They are the chosen of the goddess, the leaders and the spiritual heart of Kaldorei society.
3) Kaldorei have a close bond with nature. Respect the wilds, the plants and animals and protect them against exploitation, wasteful slaughter and corruption. Mounts and animal companions are not mere servants, but rather friends and members of the community.
4) As they consider themselves to be guardians of the balance of the world and are charged with keeping the power of the Well of Eternity locked away, the Kaldorei are eternal enemies of those who seek to defile Azeroth -- the Burning Legion in particular, but also the silithid and the Old Gods, among others. Be vigilant and remember that duty.
5) Oppose the unnatural and dangerous use of addictive arcane energies by mages and other sorcerers. Mages are not as far gone as warlocks, but neither are their powers to be trusted.
6) Warlocks are corrupted, whether they admit it or not. For this reason, there can be no friendly IC interaction with known fel users at all. (If an individual warlock is hiding their powers or being roleplayed as something else, use your own discretion, though it may be polite to play along.)
PvP Conduct
1) When engaging in world PvP, make sure your character has a good reason to do so, and that it does not conflict with other rules of behavior. For example, raiding Splintertree Post fully IC with other Kaldorei is fine, but joining a random town raid out of boredom and fighting alongside warlocks is not.
2) If you want to do world PvP quests OOC, please make sure you state as much to the people you group with, and flag yourself as OOC if you use a RP addon with this feature.
3) Behave honorably. That means absolutely no corpse-camping, spamming of rude emotes, or attacking without flagging for PvP first (also known as "attacking from the blue"). No matter how heated the fighting gets, how much your character may hate the enemy IC, or how much of an utter arse the other player is, we do not want to be associated with "ganker brat" behavior.
3) Never attack a starter zone (Durotar, Eversong Woods, Mulgore or Tirisfal Glades). Again, it does not matter how much your character hates the Horde -- griefing newbies is cowardly and despicable from an OOC standpoint, and from an IC standpoint there are more important battles to fight than killing families in their homes.
4) Remember that the Clan of the Risen Sun are our IC allies and that we respect Mulgore and the Barrens as Tauren territory. Hostile actions are taboo there, and so is attacking a member of the Clan unless he or she violates the treaty first (by assaulting Kaldorei lands).
5) As defense of Kaldorei territory is one of the core concepts of the guild, members should (if possible) follow the call to defend these zones. However, this is not mandatory for those who dislike PvP. Since world PvP usually involves a group of bored high-levels griefing much lower-levelled areas in a completely non-RP manner, it is quite understandable if people get tired of dealing with such pointless raids. Astranaar in particular is under attack so frequently that defending it properly would be a fulltime job, and a frustrating one at that.
